As of 2026, the statutory retirement age in Israel is 67 for men (born May 1942 or later), while for women it rises gradually by birth year — from 62 for those born through 1959 up to 65 for those born in 1970 or later. Example: a woman born in June 1965 retires at 63 years and 9 months, i.e. in March 2029.
How is it calculated?
The calculator takes your date of birth and sex. For men born May 1942 or later the retirement age is fixed at 67. For women, under Amendment 11 to the Retirement Age Law (2021), the age rises gradually by birth year: born through 1959 — 62; 1960 — 62 + 4 months; 1961 — 62 + 8 months; 1962 — 63; and from 1963 it adds 3 months per birth year, up to 65 for women born in 1970 or later. The calculator adds the age to your birth date and shows the exact retirement date.
Example: a woman born in June 1965 — her retirement age is 63 years and 9 months, so her retirement date is March 2029. Important distinction: retirement age is not the same as the old-age pension (kitzvat ezrach vatik) age for everyone — between retirement age and 70 the pension is subject to an income test, and only from 70 is entitlement absolute. Working past retirement age is allowed, and drawing a pension from a pension fund is possible from age 60 — with a reduced monthly annuity.
Frequently asked questions
Is Israel's retirement age the same as the old-age pension age?
Not necessarily. The retirement age (67 for men, 62–65 for women) is when entitlement to the Bituach Leumi old-age pension begins, subject to an income test. Only from age 70 is entitlement absolute, regardless of income. So someone who keeps working at a high income after retirement age may only receive the pension from age 70.
Can you keep working past retirement age in Israel?
Yes. Retirement age defines rights — it does not require you to stop working. You can continue working past 67 (men) or 62–65 (women); work mainly affects when you receive the old-age pension, through the income test that applies until age 70.
Can you retire before the official retirement age?
From the pension fund's side — yes: drawing an old-age annuity from a pension fund is possible from age 60, but the monthly annuity is reduced because the savings are spread over more payout years. The official retirement age (67 for men, 62–65 for women) still determines your rights with Bituach Leumi.
